Gerber has issued a voluntary recall of some of its baby food due to possible contamination. Gerber CEO Gary Tickle announced the recall in a letter addressed to parents on the company's website, stating that, as a result of a possible packing defect that could result in product spoilage, it is practicing caution and removing certain items from store shelves.

There's no need to toss out all your Gerber food products if you're a parent that uses them. The recall only affects certain products. Here are five things you need to know about the baby food recall:
1. The recall only pertains to four batches of food: two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Pouches (pears, carrots and peas), and two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Pouches (carrots, apples and mangoes).
2. It applies to the previously mentioned pouches with best-by dates of July 12, 2016; July 13, 2016; and July 14, 2016.
3. The recall was issued because of a possible packaging defect. As a result of the possible defect, some of the food may have been susceptible to spoilage during the transport and handling processes. The contaminated packages could appear to be bloated or have an off taste or odor.

4. Gerber has removed all the products from its retail and online stores, but it's still best if you check your supply to see if you might have some of the potentially contaminated products. It is recommended that you do not use them.
5. Gerber is offering replacement coupons through the Gerber Parents Resource Center. You can contact the company anytime, day or night, at 1-800-706-0556.
