Ah parenting... we have so many preconceived notions about it until we're actually elbows deep in a pile of tiny socks and dirty diapers. There's the way we expect it to be — blissful, precious and filled with adorable pictures of our minis dressed up in those tiny little outfits — and then there's the way it really is. And well, this picture pretty much sums it up...

Indiana-based photographer Abbie Rogers shared this hilarious picture of a baby boy peeing on his parents, taken during one of her newborn shoots in early March, and it has since taken the Internet by storm. The picture, aptly captioned "In case anyone wants to know what happens during a newborn session," uncovers the messier side of parenting perfectly.

Never has there been a more accurate and organic portrayal of the chaos of parenting, from the precious sleeping newborn to the pee fountain to the completely shocked faces of the boy's parents that this picture sums up. There's the way we expect it to be, and then there's reality.

In a newborn photographer's line of work, pee and poop are just par for a pretty unpredictable course — babies will be babies, and a photographer pretty much has to cater to their content throughout the shoot. The same could be said for parents, especially parents of boys, who have to adapt quickly to those surprise streams coming their way during diaper changes.

Babies are kind of like the tiniest, most adorable bosses a person will ever have. Sure, they're cute and cuddly, and the scent of a newborn is almost euphoric, but they also log some pretty unreasonable hours, and they really couldn't care less about your need to sleep or your brunch plans. They basically run the show.

But we wouldn't have it any other way, would we? Yes, parents are exhausted and sleep-deprived, and our wardrobes consist mostly of spit-up-covered pajamas, but we love our babies without condition, and there is no job more rewarding than making our babies smile.

The looks on the parents' faces in this picture are hilarious, yes, but they're also obviously the faces of two people who just fell in love with their son... despite his ill-timed potty break.
