After what seems like several years of speculation, it's finally been confirmed that Cheryl is having a baby. Not that she or her boyfriend Liam Payne have said a word publicly about the issue — but the former Girls Aloud member's expanding belly says it all.

They all but confirmed they are expecting this week when Cheryl showed off her bump (in a very figure-hugging green dress) at a carol concert in London to raise money for Cheryl's Trust. Cue a social media frenzy — but the pair still haven't said a word.

Apparently, they did confirm the pregnancy to their respective friends and family the following day, but they've yet to make a public statement.

The couple went public with their relationship in February 2016 when Payne changed his Instagram profile picture to a photo of the two of them. He followed this up with more Instagram action, including an older pic of Cheryl posted on International Women's Day, beside which Payne told fans she was his "favourite woman in the world." They made their first official red carpet appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May and later shared more personal snaps on their social media accounts.

Pregnancy rumours began in September when fans commented on Cheryl's fuller face in her latest L'Oréal advert. A couple of weeks later, her mum Joan Callaghan was snapped buying a pregnancy pillow in a Newcastle branch of Mothercare. And in early October, Cheryl attended a L'Oréal Paris party at Paris Fashion Week and happily posed for photographs with what looked very like a growing baby bump.

So if the rumours are true — and can't they just admit it already? — what would one of the hottest celebrity couples around name their baby?

Well, some old interviews have been unearthed, and they could give us a few indications of what baby names may be on their lists. When Cheryl spoke to GQ magazine in 2014, two years after she split from first husband Ashley Cole, she said she couldn't wait to be a mum. "I love kids, I'm obsessed with babies," she admitted. "I know that's what I was put on the earth to do — to be a mother." She also said she already had a name picked out for a baby boy: Alfie.

And in an Hits Radio interview Payne gave when he was still part of One Direction, he said he liked Taylor for a boy or a girl. "That's what I'm going to call my first child if I had children," he confirmed.

Of course, we may never know the name of this baby, see it or even learn of its existence.
