Thieves raise $10,000 using stolen photos of a sick baby

The Robinson family, who live in Canada, have been struggling to take care of their baby, a 1-year-old named Hannah, due to her multiple serious illnesses. She was born seven weeks premature and suffers from congenital adrenal hyperplasia and bowel disease, and she has also been burdened by a few other issues. She will likely be on daily medication for the rest of her life, and the expenses are mounting from frequent hospitalizations and surgeries.

The family launched a GoFundMe campaign earlier this year, hoping to help alleviate some of their financial burden. However, they were unhappy to realize that someone had duplicated her story and stolen their baby's photos to raise $10,000 for the family — except the money was being funneled into someone else's pocket and out of their own.

The fraudulent Kickstarter campaign has since been deleted, but those dollars that were lovingly donated were dollars the Robinson family could have used. It's disgusting that someone would use the tragic, desperate tale of another family to steal the funds for their own use.

Dealing with a seriously ill child is really hard on a family, not only financially, but physically, emotionally and mentally. A family I know just lost their little girl to complications from leukemia. The struggle they went through was so incredibly difficult for them, and while they were sorting through their own feelings, they made their child's life as warm and cheerful as they could. Adding another stressor to a family going through an awful time is the lowest of the low and is disturbing on so many levels. Often, much of a child's illness and treatment is out of a parent's hands, and to be victimized in such a deviant way is gross.

"I'm not sure what kind of person steals over $10,000 from a sick little girls campaign but I guess they felt they needed it more then her," the family updated on Hannah's Fight Facebook page. "We have prayed for these people and I hope they get the help they need and Hannah's Fight will move forward."

Unfortunately there are those who would take advantage of a family for their own personal gain, but hopefully those folks are few and far between and Hannah's family gets the help they need.
